Children often spend a lot of time in the buggy in their first few years. In addition to their obvious use (transporting your baby), the buggy is many parents’ saviour when it comes to sleep. Regardless of the purpose, the bedding is essential for making the carriage a really cosy place, as well as for keeping warm. So, how do you actually make a good bed based on the season, and how do you make a bed in the sitting part versus the sleeping part?
The basics of bedding your buggy
Small children have difficulty regulating their own temperature, so as a parent you need to feel your child’s skin to be able to determine if the bedding is too hot or cold – you can determine this most easily by feeling their neck. Layering the buggy is a good way to adjust the temperature if you notice that your baby is too hot or cold, so you can easily open a footmuff, remove or add a blanket.
Spring/Summer
Tip! To make the sleeping area a little tighter and cosier for your baby, you can roll up the blankets and place them along the sides. Newborns often like tight spaces as they remind them of the environment in their mother’s womb!
Autumn/Winter
Tip! Always wear overalls, hats and boots and with mittens for cold days.
Spring/Summer
Cool footmuff or soft cushion at the bottom
Sheepskin blanket adapted for the sitting area at the bottom
Add cooler muslin and mesh blankets made of cotton and wool blankets for colder days
Tip! Never hang a blanket or similar over the buggy as it stops air circulation.
Autumn/winter
Warm footmuff or one that works all year round with a sheepskin blanket or warm blankets
Cosy blankets, preferably made of wool or fleece, though cotton and muslin blankets are also good
Tip! Have an accompanying bag for the buggy where you can pack extra blankets, hats, mittens, etc. Now you are always ready if the temperature changes.
In summary: Keep an eye on your child’s temperature, have blankets close at hand, make their bed in layers and dress your child similarly and you’ll be on the right track when it comes to making a bed in their buggy. A footmuff can work all year round except possibly on hot summer days!
