Pregnant in week 29? You’ve reached the third trimester. In this article, you can read all about this exciting stage: how your baby is developing, the changes in your body, and tips to help you now.
Even now, many foetuses lie “correctly” before birth, that is, with their head down. However, it is still possible for the baby to move and lie on its side or with its bottom down.
Around week 37, you want the baby to be in a head-down position, so if the baby hasn’t yet, there is still time for the baby to settle down, as long as there is room for your baby to turn they should do so with the help of positioning, see Spinning babies ; walking, accupuncture and moxibustion.
Your baby’s sense of taste and smell has developed and your baby can now feel the difference between different tastes in a much more developed way. The brain is so developed in this week that it can regulate your baby’s breathing and body temperature to a greater extent. In the mouth, baby teeth are now forming.
Eyebrows and eyelashes have grown on your baby, who alternates between having their eyes open and closed; If you look with ultrasound, however, it usually looks like the eyes are closed! Maybe because there isn’t much to look at?
Your uterus is getting big enough that it can affect how your body feels and moves. Many pregnant women may experience that the uterus exerts an unpleasant pressure up against the ribs and lungs. You can try changing your position from; sitting to standing, squatting with your knees angled outwards or standing or kneeling on all fours, so the ribs are relieved of the pressure for a while.
It can feel heavy in the third trimester, we know. If you have the energy, it’s good to try to stay active because it can affect your mental well-being for the better. However, avoid heavy training if you’re not used to it – your body will tell you if it thinks it’s too heavy!
Your stomach muscles on the side of your stomach are no longer close together, so things that you used to be able to do with the help of strength from your stomach muscles can be difficult to find the strength for. For example, when you sit up from lying down, it is good to take support from the arm of a chair; feel free to turn to the side before sitting up to get better strength and relieve the body.
Both the upper and lower abs, tend to tip forward more and more, so if you’re already doing some form of mobility training, it’s good to keep it up! And remember to adjust your posture after sitting or standing for a while to prevent pain in the body.
Now you and your partner are entering the last part of your pregnancy and your estimated due date is getting closer. In order to avoid and be able to handle a stressful situation in the best possible way (when the situation is dire!) it can feel safe to practice driving the route to your expected maternity hospital. That way, you know the way there when the time comes, which means one less moment to stress about.
Even if the pregnancy has an estimated due date, it is just as normal for the baby to be born in week 37 as 41. It is therefore good to think about and plan everything that is important to you and yours in good time, so that you can be completely ready when your baby decides to arrive..
Pregnant women expecting their first child often give birth at week 40 or 41 according to statistics. However, heredity can affect this and in some other countries the calculation is taken into account when your mother and/or grandmother gave birth if it was a spontaneous start of labour. Second mothers statistically give birth to their second child 4-6 days earlier than the first child!
